LOFOB’s Wellness Program encourages participation in various forms of recreational and leisure time activities. The establishment of the LOFOB Choir in 2008 has created an opportunity for those who like to express themselves vocally to do so. The choir currently consists of 20 members 4 who are partially sighted and 16 blind.
The choir is open to any visually impaired or blind person who would like to join just like all the other wellness program activities. The choir is led by Mrs Benita Petersen (Manger - IDS & ECD). The choir practices take place every Thursday at 1pm in the LOFOB Gym.
LOFOB’s choir’s inaugural performance took place at the 75th anniversary Thanksgiving service held at St Anne’s Maitland in March this year. The choir returned to St Anne’s in July once again to sing as part of St Anne’s birthday celebrations (122 years) and to formalize the adoption of LOFOB as one of St Anne’s friends. The choir has also performed at the St Andrew’s Senior Choral Day (Steenberg), the Grassy Park Calvyn Protestant Church, Seniors for Life (Grassy Park Civic Centre), The LOFOB AGM and the Mitchell’s Plain VGK.
HOW CAN YOU ASSIST
The choir plans to expand and is currently looking to include instruments such as the marimba, drums and trumpets. If you are able to donate useable equipment it will contribute to the further development of the group. We do have a piano which requires tuning and would appreciate help with this as well.
If you are interested in participating in the program or would like to assist or sponsor the activities or extend an invitation for us to perform please mail Armand at armand@lofob.org.za or Call 021-7053753
