MEDIA RELEASE BY BLIND CRICKET SOUTH AFRICA 9 DECEMBER 2010

INTERNATIONAL BLIND CRICKET BATTLE CONTINUES

South Africa’s Blind cricket team battled valiantly but could not beat Pakistan’s 517/5 in the second 40 overs ODI in Goodwood, Cape Town, South Africa today in the international blind cricket series between South Africa and Pakistan.  Highest scorers for Pakistan were Masood Jan on 104; Muhammed Jamil on 84; Aneez Javed on 85; Abdul Razak on 74 not out and Ali Nisar on 73 not out.

South Africa was all out for 118.  The highest scorers for South Africa was Jesse Heyn on 21 and Sonwabile Bidla on 17.  The player of the match was Masood Jan recognised for effecting 7 run outs.

The final match of the series and ODI will be played at Sahara Park Newlands on Saturday 11 December 2010 starting at 10:00. There will be no entrance charge and the public is encouraged to come and support the blind international cricket players.

MEDIA RELEASE  7 DECEMBER 2010 by BLIND CRICKET SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa bowled Pakistan 437 all out in 35 overs in the first of three ODI’s (40 overs) in the international blind cricket series in Cape Town today. This is the first time the blind cricket world champions were bowled all out in five years. This achievement could not win the match for South Africa who ended on 266/9 after the allotted 40 overs. Highest scorer for Pakistan was Aneez Javed with 162 runs followed by Amir Ishfaq on 54.  Sonwabile Bidla of South Africa reached 104 with Tefo Classen (SA) going out on 52.  Aneez Javed was player of the match.

South Africa returned to international blind cricket in a series of T/20 and ODI’s underway in Cape Town this week.  The three T/20 matches came to an end with a convincing win by Pakistan the world champions in Blind Cricket.

First Match at Victoria Cricket Club Grounds in Kenwyn:  Pakistan 239/2 South Africa 97 all out.  Player of the match-  Muhammed Jamil (Pak) 128

Second match at Vinyeard grounds of Western province Cricket Club:  South Africa 120/6; Pakistan 121:  South Africa high scorers- Laurence Ruthven 38 not out and Riaan Serfontein 24.    Pakistan high scorers – Shabaz Muhammed 64 not out; Abazzi Zeshaan 43 not out.  Player of the match Shabaz Muhammed.

Final match at Northens Cricket club in Goodwood: South Africa 143/3; Pakistan 144/3 (15,4 overs); Top scorers- Ali Nizar(Pak) 55; South African top scorer- Jesse Heyn 36 not out.  Player of the match Masood Jan(Pak).  Player of the series: Muhamed Jamil (Pak)

The contest between the two nations continue in 3 ODI’s with the first being played on Tuesday 7th December at the Khayelitsha Oval;  the second at Northerns Goodwood on 9 December and the Final on Saturday 11 December at Sahara Park Newlands. All matches start at 10:00 and entry is free.

“Soon the ball will rattle on the soil of Cape Town when two giants will fight for the title” says Mr Yousaf Haroon, General Manager of Pakistan Blind Cricket as his team prepares to take on South Africa in a series of three T/20 and three ODI’s in Cape Town from 2-11 December 2010.  The final will be played at Newlands on 11 December 2010. 

Blind Cricket South Africa is proud to announce the selection of the South African Blind Cricket team who will receive their national colours approved by SASCOC at the launch of the series at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town South Africa tonight 25 November 2010 at 18:00.   The High Commissioner of Pakistan will be in attendance.   A special feature of the launch will be the attendance of Cobras and Protea players Vernon Philander and Rory Kleinveldt.
