AN EXPERIENCE TO BEHOLD
The dinner in the dark has become an eagerly anticipated bi-ennial premier event on the LOFOB social calendar. The great night came where friends gathered to share a scrumptious five-course meal, a funfilled experience in the dark and above all an opportunity to experience for a moment what it is like to be without sight. High profile executives, auditors, lawyers, drivers, clerks and supporters from all walks of life joined in a show of solidarity with the over 500,000 blind and partiallysighted persons in South Africa.
Guests explained afterwards how this awesome event made them aware of blindness and enhanced their sensitivity. “ It was scary when I put on the blindfold and had to be led to my table” said one very excited guest. Blindness is reported to be the disability with the highest incidence in the Western Cape and although friends at the dinner had a glimpse of life without sight there are many that would never have the opportunity to remove their “blindfold”.
Time rushed by as friends chatted and the host entertained the diners with some interesting lucky draws. To qualify for some of the spot prizes guests had to identify the number of dots on a domino by sense of touch.
