DRAMA SOCIETY

Continuing to be part of everyday cultural activities is a right in anyone’s life. This is no different for any of the participants of our program at LOFOB. 2008 has seen the introduction of the drama society adding to LOFOB’s growing Wellness Program. The drama society works towards “changing what it means to be blind” through keeping society informed of the artistic capabilities of visually impaired and blind persons. The group’s mission is to grow the already established society carrying their message to all while developing members holistically.

The program is facilitated by Mr. Alricht Swartz (Trainee mobility instructor) and Ms Rachel Engelbrecht (Blind). The group meets every Monday and Wednesday from 4pm-6pm in the Isaac Jacobs Hall at LOFOB centre and is open to any visually impaired or blind person interested in exploring their talents with regards to drama.

GROUP OBJECTIVES

  • To provide participants with opportunities to express themselves artistically
  • Providing opportunities to learn and develop new skills
  • To instill a positive attitude amongst members
  • Develop and encourage creativity
  • Create partnerships with others to promote our message of changing what it means to be blind
  • Develop individual self-esteem, self confidence and courage
  • Recruit volunteers to assist with the development of participants through sharing skills

HOW CAN YOU ASSIST

As with any drama group, stage props, costumes and scripts are essential. If you are able to donate useable equipment it will contribute to the further development of the group. The group currently visits the theatre once a month dependant on the availability of funds. We would appreciate any assistance in ensuring that we continue to expose our participants to various cultural activities and require your support where possible.

CURRENT PRODUCTION

The group is currently working on the production “’n Nuwe Lewe / A New Life”. The story revolves around the lives of a number of blind persons who are discovering new opportunities in life. The story highlights the abilities of the participants as well as the overriding theme of the possibilities in life.

If you are interested in participating in the program or would like to assist or sponsor the activities or extend an invitation for us to perform please mail Armand at armand@lofob.org.za or Call 021-7053753
