WELLNESS NEWS
Wellness is an integral part of anyone’s life. Sighted and VIP share the same health benefits that are associated with the regular participation in sport and recreational activities.
LOFOB as part of its wellness programme has grown significantly and this year have hosted the first South to South sport and recreation exchange programme with Ghana and Rwanda. Ghana has moved on from this workshop and initiated the first competitive goal ball game that took place during a day of games and recreational activities. The relationship established between the countries continues to bear fruit through the implementation of the knowledge that has been exchanged.
GYM
LOFOB’s gym programme continues to grow in popularity. Each client is continually assessed to ensure that they are meeting their wellness goals. The programme has on average 8 persons attending each Tuesday and Thursday. At the end of October we have had to say good-bye to Wentzel who has completed his training at LOFOB and we trust that he will continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle
GOAL BALL
As the season has drawn to a close, LOFOB is proud to announce that four players have provisionally been selected as part of the Western Province Senior Goal Ball Team to participate in the National Games in March 2008 in Stellenbosch. The players are Marlon Kolbee, Israel Hattingh, Shafiek Ariefdien and Agmat Ariefdien,
CRICKET
The cricket season has started with teams from LOFOB, Athlone School for the Blind, Cape Town Society for the Blind, Van Der Stel (Stellenbosch) and Pioneer School for the Blind (Worcester) participating in the joint Western Cape League.
The World Blind Cricket Council held their Annual General Meeting at Lord’s cricket ground on the 27th and 28th October. Armand Bam represented Blind Cricket South Africa as one of the delegates to the meeting. He was elected as the African Development Director and has been entrusted with the development of the game through the continent of Africa.
FUTSAL/ 5 A-SIDE FOOTBALL
In December later this year LOFOB will host coaches from IBSA to present a coaching seminar on Futsal (5 A-side football) for the blind and visually impaired. This initiative is the result of the collaboration between LOFOB and the IBSA Futsal Sub committee headed by Mr Carlos Campos.
